Story

The story of the Two Sisters is an indigenous story from the Vancouver area about the mountains now named Twin Peaks.

There is an ancient custom of rejoicing when a girl becomes a woman. When there was a time of war a Chief had two daughters. During the rejoicing of their womanhood they bravely went to their father the Chief to ask that an invitation for a peaceful feast be extended to the northern enemy tribe. The northern tribe came, bringing many gifts and singing songs of piece.

The Sagalie Tyee was so pleased with the state of piece in the nation. To reward the two daughters of the Chief the Sagalie Tyee raised them to a high place, making them immortal. The two sisters now sit guarding the peace of the Pacific Coast and the quiet of the Capilano Canyon in the place we now call Twin Peaks.
